New Study of Splenda Reveals Shocking Information About Potential Harmful Effects
James Turner, the chairman of Citizens for Health, has expressed shock and outrage after reading a new report from scientists outlining the dangers of the artificial sweetener Splenda (sucralose).
Among the animals studied, Splenda reduces the amount of good bacteria in the intestines by 50%, increases the pH level in the intestines, contributes to increases in body weight, and affects the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) in the body in such a way that crucial health-related drugs could be rejected. Turner noted that the P-gp effect "could result in crucial medications used in chemotherapy for cancer patients, AIDS treatment, and drugs for heart conditions being shunted back into the intestines rather than being absorbed by the body as intended."
Turner said, "This report followed accepted policies and procedures and the results make clear the potential for disturbing side effects from the ingestion of Splenda. It is like putting a pesticide in your body.” Although the effect of consuming Splenda does not result from a one time use but rather after accumulated use. Turner also noted unmistakable evidence that Splenda is absorbed by fat, contrary to the claims of Johnson & Johnson.
It also has environmental effects according to measurements by the Swedish Environmental Research Institute have shown that wastewater treatment has little effect on sucralose, which is present in wastewater effluents at micrograms per liter.  There are no known eco-toxicological effects at such levels, but the agency warns that there may be a continuous increase in levels if the compound is only slowly degraded in nature.  Sucralose is a chlorocarbon, some of which are known to have significant toxicity to plants or animals, including humans.
Turner announced, "We are calling today on the FDA to immediately accept our petition filed over a year ago and initiate a review of its approval of sucralose and to require a warning label on Splenda packaging cautioning that people who take medications and/or have gastrointestinal problems avoid using Splenda. The new study makes it clear that Splenda can cause you to gain weight and lose the benefits of medications designed to improve and protect your health. The FDA should not continue to turn a blind eye to this health threat."

Oh Boy…how sweet it is! Or is it? Slowly but surely, the negative press on Sucralose and Splenda is beginning to emerge. As with most man-made chemicals, the effect can be unpredictable until years later and millions of people have ingested them. Another example of humans having their cake and eating it too! Any way that we can fulfill our cravings (cheat the system) and do it in a way that defies natural law by preventing weight gain and diabetes is a sure attraction. Again, try as we may, we just cannot improve on Nature! 
Sucralose is a zero-calorie sugar substitute artificial sweetener that is manufactured by the chlorination of sucrose (table sugar). In the European Union, it is also known under the “E number additive code” E955. Now, doesn’t that sound like something delicious and healthy? Let us mix in some bleach with sugar and eat it! Europe even gives it a secret “additive code”…that should raise an eyebrow.
Just the impact it has on the intestinal bacteria is a sure indication of a chemical that is dangerous. Those bacteria are a part of our immune system as they crowd out bad bacteria. They also make many vitamins that we may not have in our diet. They are very important for good health yet this chemical reduces the population by 50%!
So many people choose these sweeteners because they are diabetic or they are on a diet. It has been marketed that these sweeteners are GOOD FOR US!!! Well, read this. In another study, psychologists at Purdue University’s Ingestive Behavior Research Center reported that compared with rats that ate yogurt sweetened with sugar, those given yogurt sweetened with zero-calorie sweetener later consumed more calories, gained more weight, put on more body fat. 
This is said to happen because when we ingest a sweet substance, the brain prepares the body for an increase in calories. When the calories aren’t present, a confusion results in the brain and biochemistry is altered. The person may get signals to eat more or expend less energy than they otherwise would. How does that DIET COKE sound now??
The moral of the story is, no matter how hard we try, no matter how genius we become, our man-made chemicals will always have side effects and will not compare to what Nature offers.
